Francis Hamilton Stuart

Francis Hamilton Stuart (born July 20, 1912 in Melbourne , † February 1, 2007 ) was an Australian ambassador .

Life

Francis Hamilton Stuart attended the Geelong Church of England Grammar School , Brasenose College, Oxford and studied at the University of Oxford .

In 1940 he was appointed British Vice-Consul in Bangkok and in 1945 he joined the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs, serving in Paris, Jakarta and Singapore. From 1950 to 1953 he served in New Delhi as a delegation counselor and temporarily as chargé d'affaires and then took over the office of master of ceremonies at the Department of Foreign Affairs until 1956 .

A year later, Stuart was transferred to Phnom Penh , first as envoy and then as ambassador . From 1961 he was accredited as ambassador to Cairo ( United Arab Republic ) and from June 9, 1966 in Manila to Ferdinand Marcos . In the meantime he took over the representation of the Australian government at SEATO for one year in 1967 . From 1970 to September 21, 1973 he was High Commissioner and, after Pakistan's withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Nations , from January 31, 1972, Ambassador to Islamabad .

Finally, Stuart was appointed ambassador to Warsaw and Berlin on June 8, 1973, and was based in Warsaw from September 21, 1973 to September 8, 1977 .
