Francisco Assis

Francisco Assis (born January 8, 1965 in Amarante ) is a Portuguese politician and member of the European Parliament for the Partido Socialista , as part of the Social Democratic Party of Europe .

Assis made at the University of Porto his Bachelor in Philosophy . He later became a lecturer at the Lusíada University in Porto. Within the Partido Socialista he was a member of the party's national board from 1993 to 2003 and has been chairman of the Porto District Association of the Partido Socialista since 2003 . From 1989 to 1995 Assis was chairman of the Amarante municipal council, and then a member of the Portuguese parliament . In 2004 he resigned his mandate to join the European Parliament .

Assis is Vice-President of the Representation of Portugal in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Western European Union .
