Francisco Avilán (born August 27, 1947 in Monterrey , Nuevo León ), also known by the nickname El Potrillo , is a former Mexican football player on the position of striker and winger , who worked as a football coach after his active career .

Life

During his active professional career Avilán played for CF Monterrey , where he was under contract in the men's team from around 1964 to 1972. At that time he also made his only two international appearances. He made his debut in the dress of the Mexican national team in the test match against the Soviet Union (0-0), which was played on February 17, 1971 at the Estadio Jalisco . In that game, Avilán came on immediately after the break for Marco Menéndez and was replaced by Horacio López Salgado just 21 minutes later . In his second and last international match, which took place on April 5, 1972 in the Aztec Stadium against Peru (2-1), Avilán came in the 75th minute for the replaced Fernando Bustos on the field.

After his active career, he also played for two seasons with Deportivo Guadalajara after his time with his home club , Avilán initially worked as a coach for his former club CF Monterrey, which he led to his first championship title in the Mexican Primera División in Torneo México 86 .

In the 1990s he coached his arch-rival UANL Tigres and revealed the exertion this required: "To train the Tigres, I had to be a real man because Francisco Avilán wasn't actually allowed to train the Tigres."

After more than 14 years of abstinence from the top division of Mexico, in which he last conducted the Tigres as head coach on February 12, 1994, he trained the Jaguares de Chiapas on October 4, 2008 at the Estadio Tecnológico of all places and led them to a 2 : 1 away win at his former club CF Monterrey.
