biography

society

Francisco Castrejón made his debut as a professional goalkeeper on February 3, 1964 in the dress of the capital club UNAM Pumas in a game against Deportivo Toluca , which was won 2-1. Because he married exactly four years later to the day, he called February 3rd his special date.

After eight years in the service of the Pumas, with whom the runner-up in 1967/68 was his most successful season to date, Castrejón moved to CF Laguna for the 1972/73 season . A year later he went to Puebla FC , where - depending on the source - he stayed for a year or two until he went back to the capital and signed with Club America . There he had his most successful time: in 1976 he became Mexican champion and Supercup winner , in 1977 he won the CONCACAF Champions Cup and in 1978 the Copa Interamericana .

After a season with CD Tampico (1979/80) he hired his "hometown club" Atlas Guadalajara before ending his career at Atlético Morelia in 1983/84 .

National team

Castrejón made his international debut for the Mexican national football team in a friendly against Colombia on February 4, 1969 (1-0). 1970 was his most successful year with a total of eleven international appearances, nine of which were between February 18 and April 26. Therefore, he may have hoped to play in the 1970 Football World Cup, which was held in his own country . Although he was one of three goalkeepers in Mexico's World Cup squad , he was not used because Ignacio Calderón was named goalkeeper and played all four of the hosts' games in full.

Castrejón brought it to a total of 28 international appearances; his last international match took place on November 22, 1981 in Honduras (0-0) as part of qualifying for the 1982 World Cup .
