José Francisco Fonseca Guzmán (born October 2, 1979 in León ), also known by the nickname kikin , is a former Mexican football player on the position of a striker .

Club career

Fonseca started his football career in the youth team of Club León and was later loaned to the second division teams Atlético Yucatán , Unión de Curtidores and CF La Piedad . With La Piedad, he was promoted to the Primera División in 2001 . Two years later he moved to the UNAM Pumas from Mexico City , where he met a total of 25 times in 71 league games and was twice Mexican champion. From January 2005 to June 2006 he played for Cruz Azul . Before he moved to Benfica Lisbon in the summer of 2006 , there were rumors in January 2006 about a move to Hertha in the Bundesliga . Just six months later he returned to his homeland, where he was under contract with the UANL Tigres between January 2007 and the end of 2010 . From 2011 to 2014 he worked for the CF Atlante . After six months at Santos de Guápiles in Costa Rica, he ended his career in mid-2014.

National team

His debut with the Mexican national team was kikin on 27 October 2004 at 2: 1 victory over Ecuador . In 2005 Fonseca took part in the Confederations Cup in Germany , where he scored two goals in five games. During qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , he scored ten times (including four hits in the 5-2 win over Guatemala) and was nominated for the World Cup . At the 2006 World Cup, he succeeded in the preliminary round match against Portugal in the 29th minute of the 1: 2 goal and the final score.

Fonseca was considered one of Mexico's most popular national players in his prime.

Private

Fonseca's brother Enrique died at the age of 16 when Fonseca was two. He later adopted the brother's nickname (" Kikin ").
