Francisco Maria de Vasconcelos Ximenes (born April 20, 1965 ) is a Protestant clergyman from East Timor . Since 2017 he has been the civilian chief of staff of President Francisco Guterres . Vasconcelos is a member of FRETILIN and, with the title of moderator, head of the Protestant Church in East Timor (IPTL).

Career

After school in Dili , he graduated from Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 1985 .

During the crisis in East Timor in 1999 , Vasconcelos was general secretary of the Christian Church in East Timor (GKTT), now the IPTL, and acting moderator on behalf of Arlindo Marçal , who switched to politics. Vasconcelos falsely reported that he was shot in the wave of violence. However, he and about a hundred other refugees had escaped the unrest in the mountains near Dili.

In 2003, at a synod of the IPTL, a scandal broke out between the prominent pastor Daniel Marçal, a cousin of Arlindo, and Vasconcelos. Vasconcelos blacked Daniel Marçal and was arrested for it. Marçal then campaigned for the release of Vasconcelos. Vasconcelos was reconciled with him again. In general, the great burden that was on Vasconcelos is considered to be the reason for the incident. In July 2004 Vasconcelos was elected the Church's official moderator. His term of office ended in July 2008.

In 2017 Vasconcelos was appointed Chief of Staff (Chefe de Casa Civil) by President Guterres. In 2019 he was appointed the President's Official Envoy to the 73rd General Assembly of the United Nations .

family

Vasconcelos has been married to Eugenie Tatuluse since 1997. His father Vincente de Vasconcelos Ximenes was the first moderator of the GKTT. The current Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, is a cousin of Francisco Maria de Vasconcelos.
