Francisco Mignone

Francisco Mignone ( pseudonym Chico Bororo ; * 3. September 1897 in São Paulo , † 18 / 19th February 1986 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian composer.

Life

Francisco Mignone was the son of an Italian flautist and studied flute, piano and composition at the São Paulo Conservatory. At the age of thirteen he played the flute in various orchestras. A scholarship enabled him to study at the Conservatory of Milan from 1920 .

Under the pseudonym Chico Bororó he composed popular pieces, some of which were recorded on record under the direction of his father. In 1924 his first opera O Contratador de Diamantes was premiered in Rio de Janeiro. In 1929 he returned to Brazil. In 1933 he succeeded Walter Burle Marx at the Instituto Nacional de Música in Rio de Janeiro.

Works (selection)

Mignone composed symphonic works, six masses and an oratorio, operas and ballets, chamber music and numerous waltzes for piano. The Congada from the opera O Contratador de Diamantes became famous .
