Franck Bouyer
Franck Bouyer (born March 17, 1974 in Beaupréau ) is a former French cyclist .
Athletic career
Franck Bouyer started his career with Castorama in 1995 . In 1997 he moved to La Française des Jeux and drove there for three years before going to Bonjour . There he was successful in the Tour de Vendée in 2002 . This victory and other good placements helped him to win the overall ranking of the Coupe de France . In 2004 Bouyer won the French one-day race Paris – Camembert . From 2005 he drove for the ProTour team Bouygues Télécom , later Team Europcar .
Bouyer started five times in the Tour de France . At the end of the 2013 season he ended his career as a professional cyclist.
illness
Bouyer suffers from narcolepsy , which manifests itself in sudden sleepiness and cataplexy , and was unable to exercise or race without the drug modafinil . The World Cycling Federation UCI decided in June 2004 not to give Bouyer an exemption to take the drug so that he could not race. Despite the rejection by the UCI and the International Sports Court , the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) allowed him to participate in races again in August 2005; however, following an appeal by the UCI, Bouyer was again denied the exemption. In January 2007, his Bouygues Télécom team fired him . Bouyer then filed a civil lawsuit against UCI and WADA in July 2007 because he was being prevented from exercising his profession. After the UCI confirmed that the new drug Xyrem for the treatment of narcolepsy was not on the doping list, Bouyer signed a new contract with Bouygues Télécom for 2009.
