Franck Sylvain

Franck Sylvain (born August 3, 1909 in Grand-Goâve , Département Ouest , † January 3, 1987 in Port-au-Prince ) was a Haitian politician and President of Haiti .

biography

Sylvain completed a law degree and then worked as a lawyer. In 1934 he was the founder of the anti-communist daily newspaper "La Croisade" (The Crusade). He was also the founder of the "Rassemblement Du Peuple Haitien" (union of the people of Haiti), an underground party. He was a judge during Paul Eugène Magloire's government from 1950 to 1956, and earned a reputation for success after delivering a verdict against a close friend of the President's trial.

On February 7, 1957, he succeeded Joseph Nemours Pierre-Louis as acting president of Haiti and stood up against the wealthy plantation owner Louis Déjoie and the revolutionary Daniel Fignolé . However, he held the presidency for only 56 days until his removal by General Léon Cantave .

He wrote memoirs about his tenure under the title "Les 56 Jours De Franck Sylvain"
