Franco Grignani

Franco Grignani (born February 4, 1908 in Pieve Porto Morone , Pavia , Italy , † February 20, 1999 in Milan ) was an Italian painter , graphic artist and designer .

life and work

Franco Grignani grew up in Pavia, Milan and Turin . He worked as a painter, trained architect and graphic artist - mostly as a freelance artist. He worked mainly for large industrial groups. In 1948 he became artistic director of the pharmaceutical company Dompé . After 1956 he worked for the magazine Pubblicità in Italia . In collaboration with the Milanese printing company Alfieri & Lacroix , he carried out studies on the phenomena of surface tension and shape dynamics. In 1959 he was awarded the Palma d'Oro della Pubblicità Prize.

He came from architecture , but his formative interests and work were dedicated to a constant experimentalism in the field of new aesthetics and visual communication . In his art he used elements of Pop Art , but above all Op Art . The internationally used wool seal of the Woolmark Company (now Australian Wool Innovation) in the form of a Möbius strip is well known .

In 1964, his works were shown in the graphics department at documenta III in Kassel . In 1994 he was a participant in the 22nd São Paulo Biennale . His works have been included in numerous public collections around the world.
