Franco Marini (born July 1, 1935 ; † December 5, 2014 in Merano ) was a South Tyrolean actor and director . Since the 1960s he had a major influence on the cultural life of Merano and contemporary theater in South Tyrol.

biography

Marini came from a theater-loving family. Professionally, he first worked as a painter , later as a graphic artist . Marini gained his first stage experience in the Meraner Volksbühne in the 1950s; as an actor, he gained notoriety mainly through his parody and cabaret skills. In the 1960s he took over the direction for the first time and initially performed the usual pieces for amateur drama groups. However, he soon turned to authors such as Johann Nestroy , Karl Valentin and Ödön von Horváth .

In 1976 he staged the drama Tirol 1525 - Scenes from the Peasants' War , based on the biography of Michael Gaismair , political theater that was controversial in the South Tyrolean public. As a result he founded the “Theater in der Klemme”, which developed a politically committed program and also tried emancipatory children 's plays based on the model of the Berlin Grips Theater .

The work of Marinis, who also liked to bring Singspiele to the stage, was the foundation for a modernization of the local folk theater . His theater work brought authors such as Jura Soyfer , Ernst Toller , Wolfgang Bauer , Heinrich Lautensack , Boris Vian , Fritz Hochwälder , Christo Bojtschew , Nikolai Erdman and Ödön von Horváth closer to the South Tyrolean audience .
