Franco Panizza (born December 24, 1959 in Campodenno , Trentino ) is an Italian politician . He is party secretary of the regional party Partito Autonomista Trentino Tirolese (PATT), for which he sat in the Italian Senate from 2013 to 2018 . Before that he was a member of the Trentino regional parliament and the regional government .

Life

Panizza attended school in Cles and studied forest sciences in Padua . On leave to fulfill his political mandate, he is an employee of the Trentino Forest Administration. He was also the chairman of the Trentino farmers' association ACT and helped to build the Union of Trentino families abroad .

As parliamentary group leader of the PATT in Val di Non and majority leader in the Campodenner municipal council, he was elected for the first time in the regional elections in 1998 in the Trentino state parliament and at the same time the regional council Trentino-South Tyrol . Until 2001 he was an assessor in the regional government of Trentino-South Tyrol . From November 2001 to November 2003 he served as vice-president of the regional council.

After the state elections in 2003 , he was appointed to the regional government of Trentino as a regional councilor , where he was initially responsible for handicrafts and cooperatives . During a government reshuffle in September 2007 he was given the additional tasks of land register and cadastre , relations with the European Union , cross-border cooperation and transport. After the state elections in 2008 , Panizza again took over the areas of culture, European relations and cooperation as state councilor. In this position he was one of the founders of the Young European Region Tyrol in 2011 . In 2012 he replaced the later governor Ugo Rossi as Segretario of the PATT.

In the parliamentary elections in 2013 he managed to win the Senate constituency of Trento clearly against his former party colleague, Giacomo Bezzi , who emigrated to Forza Italia in 2007 . In the following XVII. Panizza belonged to the Italian Senate as a member of the joint group of autonomist regional parties with the Partito Socialista Italiano .

In the parliamentary elections in 2018 he ran again in the Senate constituency of Trento, but failed with 34.87% of the votes to Andrea de Bertoldi ( Fratelli d'Italia ), who was able to unite 37.58% of the votes.
