Frank Awizus

Frank Awizus (* 1964 ) is a retired, professional hockey - referee , who in the German Ice Hockey League was busy. Along with Petr Chvatal , Rick Looker , Daniel Piechaczek and Georg Jablukov, he was one of five professional referees in German ice hockey to date.

Career

Awizus has been an honorary referee in the DEL since 1994 and has led a total of over 1,500 games as well as several international tournaments, such as the U20 World Championships in the Czech Republic in 2005 and in Canada in 2006 .

In the summer of 2006 he was signed as a professional referee by the German Ice Hockey League. Although he was the first German referee, he was never able to take up his work. During a preparatory game for the 2006/07 season between Adler Mannheim and the Swiss club ZSC Lions , he collided with a Adler player and was seriously injured. He had fractured the head of the tibia . He was never able to fully recover from this unfortunate injury. In the 2007/08 season , Awizus was only active in youth games and in the ESBG area. A possible return to the DEL was excluded at this point. The referee conducted his last game in 2008 in the Wellblechpalast , when a traditional Eisbären Berlin team met the current Berlin team.

Frank Awizus returned to his old job as a law enforcement officer after completing his referee career .
