Frank Conroy (actor)
Frank Parish Conroy (born October 14, 1890 in Derby , Derbyshire , England , † February 24, 1964 in Paramus , New Jersey ) was a British actor .
Life
Frank Parish Conroy was a British actor who worked on Broadway from 1913 to 1963 with over 50 years of stage experience . After his musical debut in 1913 with The Passing Show of 1913 , he made his debut in 1914 with The Garden of Paradise as a stage actor with a dramatic piece. With almost 50 different plays, he received the prestigious Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1957 for his portrayal of William Callifer in Graham Greene's The Potting Shed . From 1930 Conroy was also seen regularly in American films. He gained greater fame through the portrayal of the sadistic Major Tetley in the western drama Ritt zum Ox-Bow (1943) directed by William A. Wellman . Conroy also starred in films such as Charlie Chan in Egypt , Panic for King Kong and The Day the Earth Stood Still .
Conroy died of a heart attack at the age of 73 . He was married to Helen Robbins, with whom he had a son.
