Frank Engel (born February 15, 1951 in Leipzig ) is a German football coach . Most recently, he was the coach of the U 15 juniors of the youth national team of the national teams of the DFB.

Frank Engel began his football career at BSG Dimo ​​Böhlitz-Ehrenberg . He then played in the GDR junior league for Chemie Leipzig , but he had to end his playing career at the age of 19 due to back problems.

Trainer

From 1976 to 1988 Engel was responsible for the youth division of the GDR Football Association . He sat on the bench at 195 junior international matches and coached future greats such as Matthias Sammer , Ulf Kirsten and Thomas Doll . In 1986 he won bronze at the U16 European Championship in Spain . In the game for third place, the GDR youth team defeated Holger Osieck's West German team .

After the reunification he coached numerous clubs, including looking after FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the 2nd Bundesliga and was Jörg Berger's assistant coach in Aachen and Rostock. Engel gained international experience as a trainer in South Korea at Daewoo Royals (1990) and in Egypt at Ismaily SC (1998/99).

From 2005 to 2016 he coached the U 19, U 18 and U 15 national teams.
