Frank Kerns

Franklin Phillip "Frank" Kerns (born May 21, 1933 - August 3,  2015 ) was an American basketball coach .

Life

Born in Cumberland in the US state of Maryland , Kerns studied at the University of Alabama . During the Korean War in the early 1950s, he served in the United States Armed Forces .

From 1981 to 1994 Kerns was the head coach of the basketball team at Georgia Southern University . He was named Trainer of the Year at the Trans America Athletic Conference four times and led the team to three appearances in the NCAA finals. He then worked as a trainer in China for a year . From 1997 to 2001 Kerns was the head coach of UBC Mattersburg in the Austrian Bundesliga , after which he moved to league rivals Fürstenfeld Panthers . He led the Fürstenfelder to runner-up in the 2001/02 season. He remained in office in Fürstenfeld until 2003.
