Athletic career

About the company sports community (BSG) Lokomotive Delitzsch (until 1983) and the army sports community (ASG) Vorwärts Wolfen (1983-1984), Frank Pallgen came to BSG Chemie Böhlen in the second-rate GDR league at the beginning of the 1984/85 season . Despite his lack of match practice in higher-class football, he was immediately part of the team. Of the 34 league games, he played 29 games in which he was almost always used in midfield. On the last day of the match he scored his first point goal for BSG Chemie. After 32 league games as a midfielder and one more goal in the 1985/86 season, he played his last season for Chemie Böhlen in 1986/87. This time he only made 25 league appearances but scored three goals. For the 1987/88 season Pallgen moved to the GDR league for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig. Coach Hans-Ulrich Thomale initially put Pallgen back into the starting line-up as a midfielder in five league games, but then only allowed him to play for 90 minutes twice. After another 65-minute appearance in the first round match of the European Cup in cup winners against Olympique Marseille (0-0), Pallgen was only a substitute and finally only made twelve appearances in the 26 league games, in which he also remained goalless. In view of this balance, Pallgen was dismissed from 1. FC Lok at the end of the season. He then returned to Lok Delitzsch in the third class district league.
