Frank Papenbroock (* 1963 in Hamburg ) is a German filmmaker / director, producer and author of an encyclopedia.

Career

Papenbroock's career began with an apprenticeship in photography with the American photographer / director / artist Michael Somoroff and the Hamburg photographer Christian von Alvensleben . This was followed by a short period as a freelance photographer and then a stay of several years in New York, studying film at NYU . During these years he worked on various film projects as a camera assistant, cameraman, screenwriter and film studio manager together with well-known filmmakers such as B. Cameraman Ernest Day or actor Joaquín Phoenix . At the beginning of the 1990s, Papenbroock moved back to Germany, where, after numerous camera assistants with well-known cameramen such as Howard Atherton and Oscar winner Robert Fraisse, he soon worked as a freelance cameraman and director for music videos, advertising films (over 200 pieces), TV magazine articles, reports and Documentaries made a name for themselves. Today he is known for his scientific documentaries for Arte , Das Erste , WDR , 3sat and ZDF as well as for his advertising films.

Papenbroock's documentary Von Göttern und Designers - A Faith War Reaches Europe (on ARTE ) (together with Peter Moers ) from 2006 caused a sensation . It describes the attempts of Christian fundamentalists to anchor belief / creationism in biology lessons and to establish evolutionary theory as wrong or unbelievable to represent. The film sparked discussions about such endeavors throughout Germany and advocates a consistent separation of religion and science. In the context of this discussion, the Hessian Minister of Education, Karin Wolff , came under increasing pressure when she advocated the treatment of Christian doctrine in biology classes.

In May 2009, in the report “With the Bible to the Abitur” (also with Peter Moers), he was able to demonstrate a further spread of creationist tendencies at Christian private schools in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Since 1996 he has been co-owner and managing director of BLMFILM GmbH in Hamburg.
