Frank Werner Veauthier

Frank Werner Veauthier (born February 23, 1927 in Saarbrücken ; † January 27, 2003 there ) was a German philosopher and university professor .

Life

Veauthier studied philosophy , theology and psychology at the universities of Trier and Bonn . In 1953 he did his doctorate in Bonn under Oskar Becker . From 1953 to 1954 he studied at the Sorbonne . In 1955, Veauthier was committed to the reintegration of the Saarland into the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1957 he became a lecturer at the Peter Wust University in Saarbrücken and took over the art department in the Saarland Ministry of Culture. In 1958 Veauthier was co-editor of the book "Das Saarland. A contribution to the development of the youngest federal state in politics, culture and economy". From 1954 to 1964 he was head of the cultural department of the Saarland Ministry of Culture. In 1961 he was a co-founder of the Saarland cultural group. In 1968 Veauthier was appointed professor. From 1971 to 1975 he was rector of the Saarland University of Education . On April 25, 1977 Veauthier was awarded the Saarland Order of Merit. In 1978 he became professor of philosophy at Saarland University . He dedicated research and teaching in particular to phenomenology , neo-Kantianism , the German and French existential philosophy , the philosophy of religion , the Frankfurt School and the philosophy of the mind (body-soul problem). Other main areas of work were critical rationalism and dealing with Marxism . In the early 1980s he founded the Peter Wust Research Center, which was affiliated to Saarland University in 1985. Veauthier initiated symposia on Karl Jaspers , Martin Heidegger and Peter Wust . In 1997 his book "Cultural Criticism as a Task of Cultural Philosophy" was published.
