Frankfurt Feldbahnmuseum
The Frankfurter Feldbahnmuseum e. V. is an association for the preservation of operable light railway vehicles of the track width 600 mm, based in Frankfurt am Main - Bockenheim . It is part of the Route der Industriekultur Rhein-Main and the largest technology museum in Frankfurt.
history
In 1975 the association Frankfurter Schmalspurfreunde was founded . Museum operation began in 1976, initially on the site of a gravel pit in Mainflingen . In 1979 the collection moved to the site of the former Bundesbahn repair shop in Frankfurt-Nied due to the ongoing gravel mining . Another move was necessary as early as 1981 because the factory premises were to be built on. With the support of the City of Frankfurt, the now founded non-profit association Dampfbahn Rhein-Main was able to use the former Bockenheimer depot of the Frankfurt tram , which was not open to the public . Although the vehicles could be accommodated in the new facilities, regular driving was not possible.
From 1985 the association was able to build a vehicle hall and a permanent track system on a site made available by the city on the Rebstock . In 1987 the Frankfurt Feldbahnmuseum was opened. The museum railway on the Rebstock was expanded several times. Since 1991, a line of around 1200 meters in length has been operated several weekends a year. The locomotives will be relocated at the two terminal stations at Kaiserdamm and Alter Flugplatz as well as at the museum. In 2005 a second wagon hall went into operation for the collection that had grown over the years, and a third wagon hall at the end of 2007. On May 31, 2008, the extension of the route by approx. 300 meters from the old airfield to the new terminal at Rebstöcker Wald was put into operation.
The Frankfurter Feldbahnmuseum is a member of the Hessian Museum Association and the German Museum Association .

Vehicle fleet
The Frankfurt Feldbahnmuseum is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. Its extensive collection includes over 70 locomotives and approx. 200 wagons of all kinds, including 20 steam locomotives , 34 diesel locomotives , 4 gasoline locomotives , 4 electric locomotives and 13 special locomotives .
13 steam locomotives are currently operational. Locomotives from the manufacturer Maschinenbau-Gesellschaft Heilbronn , Henschel , the French company Decauville , Orenstein & Koppel (O&K), Jung , Borsig , Hanomag and Krauss are represented in the collection.
As a special feature, the museum has the smallest type of mallet articulated locomotive from O&K with 30 hp . The association also houses the currently only operational En2t Heeresfeldbahn locomotive with Luttermöller drive , which gives the locomotive very good cornering ability. A type CV gasoline locomotive from Deutz is the oldest motor locomotive in the world that has been preserved in its original condition. The locomotive is on loan from the German Museum in Munich and has been on the vehicle list of the Frankfurt Feldbahnmuseum since the beginning of 2015.
