Franklin H. Lichtenwalter

Franklin Herbert Lichtenwalter (born March 28, 1910 in Palmerton , Pennsylvania , †  March 4, 1973 in Harrisburg , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1947 and 1951 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Franklin Lichtenwalter attended the public schools in his home country and then Allentown High School until 1929 . He worked in the insurance industry from 1933 until his death in 1973. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1938 and 1947 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives . From 1943 to 1946 he headed the Republican parliamentary group there; in 1947 he was President of that Chamber.

After the death of MP Charles L. Gerlach , Lichtenwalter was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on September 9, 1947, when the by-election was due for the eighth seat of Pennsylvania . After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1951 . This time was shaped by the events of the Cold War . In 1950 he renounced another candidacy.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Franklin Lichtenwalter continued to work in insurance. He was also vice president and executive director of the Pennsylvania Electric Association in Harrisburg. He died in this city on March 4, 1973.
