Frank's World is a German documentary film by Peter Hümmeler from 2009 . The film celebrated its premiere on October 30, 2009 at the Hof International Film Festival .

action

Frank lives in the province of Lower Saxony. Here he has created his own little kingdom behind two meter high walls. In this refuge he is the boss over horses, dogs, snakes, spiders, lizards, a couple of mandrills and his girlfriend Nadine. It doesn't bother anyone here that Frank earns his living as a pimp and occasionally wears a swastika T-shirt while gardening. Since this is completely different in front of the walls, he also withdraws further and further into his own world.

He only lives out his role as a pimp sporadically and involuntarily when he hangs over his thick gold chains, gets into his Hummer and drives to the nudist club 50 km away to collect his share from his business partner. On site, Frank reports on the sometimes violent way to the pimping. Without remorse, he wants to leave his past behind and turn to another future.

On the farm, 19-year-old Nadine talks about her beginnings in prostitution and working in Frank's club, where they both met. She moved to his home and continued to work in his brothel.

On his farm Frank a second income has started to build up and now breeds Bull Terrier and American Pit Bull Terrier . But his life turns out differently than planned when his girlfriend Nadine becomes pregnant and a daughter is born. Frank slowly becomes friends with the role of a father and returns to his job to earn money for the family.

criticism

Harald Mühlbeyer describes the film as a “very close, sensitive, fascinating portrait” , which is also very funny, “because Frank is the right type” . Rüdiger Suchsland from the Kölner Stadtanzeiger counts Frank's World among the “most interesting and daring” films of the Hof International Film Festival , the protagonist of which the director portrays with “a lot of empathy” .
