Paul Pieck

Paul Pieck (born September 11, 1981 in Tübingen ) is a German cameraman .

Life

Paul Pieck studied camera at the FH Dortmund while he worked as a lighting technician and gripper in film productions. One of his first camera works was the short film Der tinny Lemming directed by Felix Hassenfratz in 2006 . Later he was able to make a name for himself with Poldis Engel and Hans in Glück . In the summer of 2008 he directed the camera on the web series Highroller and Tank , whose main characters are the actors Raphael Rubino and Daniel Wiemer .

In 2009 he made the short film Soltau with Peter Hümmeler , which won the audience award at the Cologne Unlimited Festival, and the documentary film Franks Welt , which was shown at the Hof International Film Festival.

In 2010 he was the cameraman in the second unit for the movie An Island called Udo by Markus Sehr . In the same year he shot the short film Ganoven with the directors Pia Hellenthal and Marina Klauser , which premiered in January 2012 at the Solothurn Film Festival. Ganoven ran on April 29, 2012 in the NRW competition of the Oberhausen Short Film Festival .

The documentary Borschemich (new) by Christine Uschy Wernke , co-produced by Blinkerfilm, Boogiefilm and WDR , was also shown in the 2012 NRW competition , for which Paul Pieck was also responsible for the image design. Borschemich (new) is part of the dok you project and was also shown at the Children's Film Festival Goldener Spatz in the 2012 documentary film competition.

In the short film Spielzeit by the US director Lucas Mireles and the German cameraman Jens Nolte , Paul Pieck led the second unit's camera, was a still photographer, making-of cameraman and played one of the supporting roles. The film is a co-production of the Cologne International Film School and UCLA and was screened in the 2012 Sundance Film Festival's international short film competition .

In August 2012, filming began on the new ARD series Heiter bis tödlich: Between the lines in which Pieck was the second cameraman for the entire 16 episodes of the first season.

In 2015 he developed the visual concept for the comedy series Comedy Rocket , which he accompanied as a cameraman for three seasons until 2017. On Facebook could Comedy Rocket recorded more than 230 million video views. On YouTube alone , the clip "Sex in the Bathtub" reached over 18 million viewers (as of January 2020). The clip “This is how relationships break” was widely discussed in the media as a commentary on digitization and AI . Mac Life described the clip as "really funny and not that far-fetched". In 2017, Comedy Rocket was nominated for the Golden Camera Digital Award in the Comedy category
