František Černý

František Černý (born January 23, 1861 in Pardubice , † September 3, 1940 in Prague ) was a Czech double bass player , composer and music teacher .

Live and act

František Černý studied from 1876 to 1882 with Vendelín Sládek at the Prague Conservatory and with Victor Frédéric Verrimst at the Paris Conservatory , where he was awarded second prize in the 1886 competition. He then played double bass with the Parisian orchestras Colonne and Lamoureux from 1884 to 1890 and played as solo double bass player in the orchestra of the National Theater in Prague from 1890 to 1900 .

Černý taught from 1900 to 1931 as a professor at the Prague Conservatory. Among his students were well-known personalities such as Rudolf Tulaček, František Hertl , Oldřich Šorejs and Karel Šejna. He wrote textbooks for double bass and composed several solo concerts and chamber music for this instrument .

Černý played a double bass made by the violin maker Grancino in 1693.
