František Gellner

František Gellner (born June 19, 1881 in Mladá Boleslav , † September 13, 1914 missing) was a Czech poet, anarchist , prose writer , painter and caricaturist.

Life

He attended high school in his hometown and studied in Mladá Boleslav from 1901, for a short time in Vienna and then at the mining academy in Příbram , then painting in Munich and Paris in 1905 , switched to the art academy in Dresden in 1909 and visited Paris again a year later . With Stanislav Kostka Neumann he led smaller anarchist groups.

From 1911 on he lived in Brno , wrote for Lidové noviny (People's Newspaper) and took part in political life. He was called up after the outbreak of World War I in 1914 and has been missing since September 13, 1914.

Works

He wrote his first poems while still a student. His verses are simple, with a repeating rhythm and rhyme. He writes about himself critically and cynically, trying to moralize himself. His works are heavily influenced by anarchism. He has also worked as a writer for newspapers and magazines, including Moderní revue and Nový kult (The New Cult). He also wrote short stories, novels and dramas and worked as a translator.
