František Sedláček

František Sedláček (born October 10, 1943 in Prague , † December 8, 2008 in Cologne ) was a German architect and university professor .

Life

František Sedláček, who was born in Prague during the Second World War, attended a modern-language grammar school in his hometown after primary school , which he graduated from high school in 1961 . He finished an apprenticeship as a bricklayer in 1962. In the winter semester of 1962/63 he began studying architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Development at the CVUT in Prague. After taking his diploma in 1968, he emigrated to England as a political refugee . In 1969 he took up the postgraduate course in Environmental Design at the Royal College of Art in London. From 1969 to 1974 he also worked as a freelancer in well-known architecture firms in Belgium, Italy, England, the USA and Germany. In 1974 he and his wife opened a joint architecture office in Munich . After having acquired German citizenship in the meantime, in 1986 he was appointed professor of design and building theory at the Faculty of Architecture at Cologne University of Applied Sciences . In 1988 he founded his own office in Cologne. In 1991 a second office was set up in Prague. In 2004 he stopped teaching.
