František Svátek (sculptor)

František Svátek (born December 2, 1945 in Tábor ) is a Czech technician and sculptor .

Life

He graduated from the Industrial School for Nuclear Technology in Prague by 1963 and then from the Applied Arts School for Sculpture and Stonemasons in Hořice until 1968 before he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (specializing in sculpture-restoration in Jiří Bradáček's studio ) and graduated in 1973.

1974 to 1984 he lived with a break of two years in the Federal Republic of Germany , where he was busy with stone restoration and 1981 and 1982 taught sculpture techniques for two years at the University of Kassel . The interruption resulted from a scholarship at an institute for restoration in Rome (work on Roman frescoes and mosaics ).

In 1984 he moved to Italy , where in 1985 and 1986 he taught sculpture techniques for two years at the Centro Europeo per la Conservazione del Patrimonio Architettonico in Venice . He then stayed in Switzerland for several years.

1988 began to participate in symposia and exhibit his works.

In 1997 he returned to the Czech Republic, where he works and lives with his wife, Barbora Blahutová (* 1941 in Veselí nad Lužnicí ), who is also a sculptor, in a farmhouse in the village of Vlastiboř near the small town of Soběslav in the Tabor district . The two daughters Francesca and Alessandra are also artistically active after appropriate training in Český Krumlov and in other European countries.

Works

His work in the field of kinetic art includes a. hydrokinetic stone sculptures and wind objects.

"Svátek's granite and marble sculptures are not lacking in humor: a sophisticated system of water conduits often sets stones weighing tons, meticulously crafted in motion, accumulated water ripples and leaves the stone with the task of bringing itself back into balance, water that has already accumulated again sets that ironic game in motion again ".

Exhibitions

Solo exhibitions took place in Rome , Florence ( Fortezza da Basso ), Verona , Vicenza , Prague, Brno , Pilsen , Neuhaus and other cities in the Czech Republic. In Austria he exhibited in the temporary sculpture park Viehofener See in St. Pölten . In 2012, some of his works can be seen in the Heimathaus-Stadtmuseum Perg and in several locations throughout the city of Perg .

He took part in exhibitions in Los Angeles, Monza, Novara, Milan, Bremen, Passau and in Olten ( Kunstmuseum Olten ) in Switzerland .
