The Apostolic Prefecture Azerbaijan ( lat. : Apostolica praefectura Bakuensis ) is in Azerbaijan preferred Roman Catholic Apostolic Prefecture based in Baku .

history

The Mission sui juris Baku was established on October 11, 2000 from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Administration of the Caucasus . Pope John Paul II visited the small Catholic community in Azerbaijan in May 2002. Benedict XVI. raised on August 4, 2011 with the bull De iuvandis the Mission sui juris to the Apostolic Prefecture, which was named Apostolic Prefecture Azerbaijan. The first Apostolic Prefect, Vladimir Fekete SDB, was raised to the rank of bishop by Pope Francis in December 2017 .
