The French Hybrid Ceanothus ( Ceanothus × delilianus ) is a hybrid in species rank from the kind of ceanothus ( Ceanothus ) in the family of the Buckthorn family . The hybrid used as an ornamental shrub originated in France as a cross between the American species Ceanothus americanus and Ceanothus coeruleus and is considered the hardest garden form of the genus .

The French hybrid sackflower grows as a small, upright, loose shrub and is up to 1.5 meters high and wide. The main root is strong, not very branched, and spread out flat. Its leaves are deciduous , elliptical , alternate , 4 to 8 centimeters long, dark green and tomentose below. The flowering of the somewhat frost-sensitive shrub appears on the annual wood. The purple to powder blue flowers (flowering period July to October) are in large, branched, paniculate inflorescences.

Location as an ornamental plant

The French hybrid sacrum requires light to medium-heavy, calcareous and well draining soils in full sun, warm, protected locations.
