The Franz-Löbert Square is a small place in Bremen in the district Huchting , district Kirchhuchting . It was created in 1978 by renaming the square in front of the local office, previously Obervielander Straße 3b.

The square bears the name of the Bremen politician ( SPD ), Bremen Senator for the Interior (1967–1971) and mayor / local office manager von Huchting Franz Löbert (1906–1975).

The Obervielander Straße located on the square represents the historical connection between the villages of Kirchhuchting and Mittelhuchting. It was named after the Upper (since 1598) Vieland = flat, swampy land in which it used to be. Since 1958 there has also been an Obervieland district elsewhere .

Other streets nearby were named Kirchhuchtinger Landstrasse after the village of Huchting and the church that has stood there since the 13th century, and Oldenburger Strasse ( B 75 ) after the city of Oldenburg .

history

Old St. George's Church, drawn by JH Menken

Finds show that the village of Huchting was a settlement as early as the Neolithic Age . 1063 ( Brookhuchting ), 1171 ( Huhtinge ) and 1288 ( Kerchhoytiggen ) as well as 1215 or 1266 the village church are mentioned for the first time. Around this church is the village, which in 1817 became a rural community in the Bremen district .

In 1879 today's neo-Gothic Protestant Church of St. George was built and the old, dilapidated church was torn down. The Dorfkrug (built by Mahlstedt in 1867), the community office (1912 to 1933), the Vorwärts consumer shop and Osmer's Café (1861–195?) And the station restaurant on Obervielander Strasse were located on the village square . From 1954 to the 1970s, the town was expanded and in 1975 the district had 35,252 inhabitants. A larger building for the local office and police as well as for the branch of the Sparkasse Bremen was built around 1978 together with the expansion of the square.
