Franz-Werner Kersting

Franz-Werner Kersting (born March 2, 1955 in Lippstadt ) is a German historian . Since 2006 he has been an adjunct professor for modern and contemporary history at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster .

Life

From 1975 to 1981 , Kersting studied history , German and pedagogy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster, where he passed the first state examination for teaching at secondary levels I and II in 1981. From 1981 to 1984 he received a doctoral scholarship from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and in 1987 did his doctorate under Heinz Gollwitzer at the University of Münster with a thesis on the military and youth in the Nazi state . From 1986 to 1996 he was a lecturer at the History Department of the University of Münster. In 1997 he completed his habilitation at the University of Siegen with the study of institutional doctors between the German Empire and the Federal Republic .

In 2003 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Siegen. Since 2006 he has been an adjunct professor for modern and contemporary history at the University of Münster.

Kersting's main research areas include the history of National Socialism , the social history of the Federal Republic of Germany and international history of the 19th and 20th centuries. He also conducts research projects on the history of psychiatry and urban-rural relationships in the 20th century. He is u. a. Member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia and in the working group for research into National Socialist "euthanasia" .
