Franz Ackerl (born May 19, 1901 in Vienna , † May 3, 1988 ibid) was an Austrian geodesist and professor for geodesy and photogrammetry at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna.

In addition to his teaching activities - which focused on surveying and its applications in cultural engineering - he also carried out research in the field of earth measurements and remote sensing . In his well-known textbook Geodesy and Photogrammetry (Fromme 1950, 1956) he combined both areas of activity, which was criticized by experts in higher geodesy such as Karl Ledersteger . This did not affect the distribution of his textbook ; it contains a variety of geodetic and instrumental topics and methods that has seldom been surpassed to this day. Naturally, the methods of cosmic geodesy developed around 1959 are not yet included.

Franz Ackerl's successor at the geodetic institute of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences was Gerhard Stolitzka , formerly a lecturer at the Technical University of Vienna and civil engineer (subway construction).

Since 1952 he was an honorary member of the Catholic student association KÖHV Amelungia Vienna in the ÖCV .
