Franz Adolf Schalch

Franz Adolf Schalch (born February 6, 1814 in Schaffhausen ; † October 6, 1874 there ) was a Swiss politician and judge . From 1855 to 1857 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

The son of an economist and Rittmeister studied law at the universities of Tübingen , Heidelberg and Berlin . Schalch later took over the Zum Rieth estate near Schaffhausen from his father. From 1840 to 1842 he was a district judge in Schaffhausen , in 1843 the registrar of the state chancellery and from 1844 to 1847 a member of the appellate court. In 1848 he took over the presidium of the cantonal court .

Schalch was a moderate liberal and was elected to the Grand City Council (legislature) of Schaffhausen in 1844, to which he belonged until 1847. In 1844 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Schaffhausen , from 1846 he was a member of the Small City Council of the City of Schaffhausen (executive). He presided over the Grand Council in 1853, 1855 and 1859, and in 1851/52 he was involved in drafting a new cantonal constitution as a constitutional councilor . Schalch ran for the National Council elections in 1854 , but his election was not certain until March 1855 after the sixth ballot. In 1857 he did not stand for re-election. In 1872 he spoke out against the total revision of the federal constitution and was voted out of office in the same year as a councilor. Until his death he remained Schaffhausen city councilor and cantonal court president.
