Franz Anton Christoph van der Linden

Franz Anton Christoph van der Linden (born March 5, 1804 in Erfurt ; † June 7, 1877 in Hamburg ) was a German businessman and manufacturer .

Life

Linden came to Hamburg as a merchant and initially represented the royal Prussian chemical factory in Schönebeck . On March 1, 1828, he founded a factory for chemicals and paints under his own name . In 1836 he took Johann Joachim Osewaldt, his wife's brother, into the company, which from then on operated as F. A. C. van der Linden & Co. J. H. B. Osewaldt's widow's sugar mold and pot factory was taken over and in 1864 a partner named Volger joined the company. After Osewaldt left and Volger died, Linden continued the business on his own from 1874. After Linden's death, the company came into the possession of Ernst August Otto Versmann in 1879 .

At the time of the German Revolution of 1848/1849 and in the following years Linden was politically active. He was a member of the Hamburg Constituent Assembly . In 1849 he was involved in the founding of the "Lesehalle" society, which opened on May 8, 1850 in Hamburg at 9 Neß. The society temporarily had about 2000 members and was dissolved in 1860 due to differences of opinion. As a result, the societies "Athenaeum" and "New Reading Hall of 1861" were formed.

Linden was a member of the Hamburg parliament from 1859 to 1862 .
