Ernst August Otto Versmann

Ernst August Otto Versmann (born July 4, 1823 in Hamburg ; † April 7, 1889 there ) was a German pharmacist and manufacturer .

Life

Versmann was a son of the pharmacist Johann Ernst Versmann (1772-1854) and his wife Elisabeth Magdalene Auguste Richardi (1799-1833). The Hamburg mayor Johannes Versmann was his brother. After his school days at the Christianeum in Altona , Versmann studied pharmacy in Jena and Kiel . During his studies in 1845 he became a member of the Teutonia Jena fraternity . He passed his pharmacist examination in Hamburg in 1848. In 1849 Versmann became a Hamburg citizen and joined the St. Pauli Citizens' Association. On March 1 of the same year he leased the Einhorn pharmacy from his father, which he had opened in St. Pauli on October 26, 1816 . He ran the pharmacy until 1876 and at the beginning of 1879 became a partner in F. A. C. van der Linden & Co. , a factory for paints , drugs and chemicals founded in 1828 .

From 1861 to 1876 Versmann acted as a pharmacist for the St. Pauli Poor's Asylum and was a member of the Medical College from 1872 to 1876. From 1868 to 1871 he was chairman of the pharmacists' association. In addition, Versmann held a large number of civil honorary offices and was involved in the St. Paulikirche .

Versmann was a member of the Hamburg Parliament from 1859 to 1865 and 1871 to 1889 . From 1871 to 1889 he was a member of the citizens' committee . In the Reichstag election in 1887 , he ran in the second electoral district as a candidate for the Reichstag electoral association, but was defeated by the social democratic competitor Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Dietz .

Ernst August Otto Versmann married Julie Adoline Marie Schmidt (1835–1898) on May 14, 1857 in Neuenbrock in Holstein. They had two sons and two daughters.
