Moritz Steinla
Moritz Steinla (actually Franz Anton Erich Moritz Müller ; born August 21, 1791 in Steinlah , Haverlah near Hildesheim , † September 21, 1858 in Dresden ) was a German engraver .
Life
Steinla, the son of a pastor, made his first studies at the art academy in Dresden . Later, however, he went to Italy , where he learned the professional engraving with Raffaello Morghen in Florence and with Giuseppe Longhi in Milan . There he finished his engraving after Titian's famous painting Christ with the Interest Dime in 1829 .
After his return he became professor for copper engraving at the Dresden Academy around 1838.
Moritz Steinla ended his teaching activity on April 1, 1858 and died only a few months later on September 21, 1858 in Dresden. His extensive collections of paintings, engravings, coins and fossils came largely into the possession of the royal collections in Dresden .
