Franz Anton Zuccarini
Franz Anton Zuccarini ( January 11, 1755 in Mannheim - February 9, 1823 in Munich ) was a German child actor , dancer , theater actor and director and acting teacher .
Life
Zuccarini attended the Mannheim dance school as a child and took part in operettas at the French Theater at an early age. When this was abandoned, the German drama came in its place and at that time Zuccarini earned his first spurs.
He soon went to Hamburg, where he was fortunate not only to be hired by Friedrich Ludwig Schröder (1780), but also to receive further training by him until his talent was fully mature. Schröder evidently believed in him and since he did not want to give up his principle of not paying a fee higher than 600 thalers , he found the way out to give the meritorious Zuccarini 100 thalers a year.
He stayed in Hamburg for twelve years and achieved the most brilliant successes there as well as on his guest tours to Prague, Dresden, Berlin etc. Especially as “ Marquis Posa ” he was at the height of his achievements as a hero lover.
In 1792 he left Hamburg to take up a position at the Munich City Theater, to which he was a member until his retirement (1816). Here, too, it was heroic father roles that put him in the ranks of the first representatives of this subject. During his outstanding artistic activity in Munich, he was particularly fortunate to be able to create several classical roles. There he was the first “Macbeth” on March 4, 1802, the first “Philipp” in Don Carlos on June 7, 1802 , the first “Wallenstein” ( The Piccolomini ) on April 4, 1804 and the first “Wallenstein” on September 11, 1806 first "tell". In none of these roles did he receive an equal rival during his lifetime. For a short time he was also a director and from 1795 he was also the artistic director of the theater, although he had to relinquish this post to Heinrich Beck in 1799 under the direction of Joseph Marius von Babo .
After retiring as an actor, he turned to educating students, several of whom rose to fame.
He died on February 9, 1823.
In 1796 he married the actress Katharina Lang , a daughter of Franziska Lang , who had originally devoted herself to singing, but had switched to acting after the loss of her voice. His son was the botanist Joseph Gerhard Zuccarini (1797–1848).
