Katharina Maria Franziska Lang ( November 1774 in Mannheim - May 4, 1803 in Munich ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ), pianist , composer and stage actress .

Life

She was the daughter of court musician Franz Joseph Lang (1751–1835) and Franziska Lang (nee Stamitz, 1746–1800) and was educated by her mother. In 1778 she came to Munich with her father, where she received piano training from Andreas Streicher , who later dedicated the symphony from the opera Castor and Pollux to her, as well as singing lessons from the singer and teacher Dorothea Wendling . In 1789 she moved to Italy, where she continued her vocal training with Bacherotti in Padua. She first appeared publicly on a stage in Mantua . Together with Girolamo Crescentini she sang in the piece La clemenza di Tito at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice or appeared with Luigi Lodovico Marchesi in Alessandro nell'Indie in Bergamo and in Pierre-Alexandre Monsigny's Le Déserteur in Vicenza .

As a result of a loss of voice, she returned to Munich in 1795 because she had to end her singing career. There she turned to the art of acting and accepted engagements at the court theater in Munich. There she was artistically active in the plays Minna von Barnhelm and Emilia Galotti until her death in 1803.

Since 1796 she was married to the Munich court actor Franz Anton Zuccarini (1755-1823) and appeared on the stage as Mme Zuccarini-Lang. Lang also worked as a pianist and composer and died at the young age of 29. Her son was the botanist Joseph Gerhard Zuccarini (1797–1848).
