Franz Arnold von Merveldt

Franz Arnold von Merveldt (baptismal name: Franz Arnold Alexander Dietrich) (born February 13, 1713 in Münster ; † November 17, 1765 ibid) was canon in Münster and official droste in Wolbeck.

Life

Origin and family

Franz Arnold von Merveldt grew up as the son of Ferdinand Dietrich von Merveldt and his wife Josefa Maria Anna von Westerholt zu Lembeck (1693–1762) with his siblings Burchard Alexander , Clemens August , Maximilian Ferdinand , Hermann Adolf (* 1718, Order of Malta) and Sophie Ludovica Agnes (1730–1810, ⚭ February 10, 1748 Wilhelm Ferdinand von Galen ) in the ancient Westphalian noble family von Merveldt . The Lords of Merveldt belonged to the primeval nobility and one of the oldest families in the Münsterland. On October 4, 1747, Franz Arnold married the free woman Sophia Franziska Theresia von Fürstenberg (1723–1769).

Career and work

With the receipt of the tonsure on Christmas Day 1728 Franz Arnold was prepared for a spiritual life. The Turnar , his uncle Adolf Bernhard von Merveldt to Westerwinkel, awarded him in 1730 a Dompräbende to which he abandoned in 1746 in favor of his brother Alexander Burchard. On October 8, 1731, he enrolled at the University of Orléans and filled the position of procurator . On May 10, 1743 he was assigned to his father in the office of Drosten zu Wolbeck and finally appointed Drosten on August 11, 1743.
