Maximilian Ferdinand von Merveldt

Maximilian Ferdinand von Merveldt (baptismal name: Maximilian Ferdinand Theodor Maria Josef von Merveldt) (born April 14, 1727 in Münster ; † March 25, 1790 ibid) was canon in Hildesheim and Münster.

Life

Origin and family

Maximilian Ferdinand von Merveldt grew up as the son of Ferdinand Dietrich von Merveldt and his wife Josefa Maria Anna von Westerholt zu Lembeck (1693–1762) together with his brothers Clemens August (high court marshal and official drone) and Hermann Adolf (* 1718, Order of Malta) in the ancient Westphalian noble family von Merveldt .

Career and work

With the receipt of the tonsure on April 15, 1742 Maximilian Ferdinand was prepared for a spiritual life. By imperial request he was granted a cathedral priest in Hildesheim in 1744 . He graduated from the University of Reims with a law degree . On June 11, 1752 he was ordained a subdeacon . After his brother Clemens August waived , he received the prebend in Münster . In 1774 he received the Schwienhorst obedience . On November 30, 1788 he was appointed provost of St. Remigius Borken and a month later he was appointed Archdeacon of Winterswijk. At the same time he was provost of the parish of St. Ludgeri in Münster. In the same year, his family tried to persuade him to give up his offices in favor of his nephew Burchard Paul. Despite poor health, he remained in office until death.

On March 28, 1790 he was buried in the cathedral in Münster.
