Franz Büttner Pfänner zu Thal (born June 6, 1859 in Halle (Saale) , † August 20, 1919 in Coburg ) was a German art historian and restorer.

Life

Büttner began studying art history and cultural history at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . In 1881 he became active in the Corps Vandalia Berlin . In the next year he moved to the local Friedrichs University in Halle , where he also joined the Corps Palaiomarchia . 1887 doctorate he attended the University of Jena to Dr. phil. The recording and scientific processing of the art and cultural monuments in the Duchy of Anhalt were his most important achievement. For this, it made the government of the Province of Saxony toHonorary professor . He also devoted himself to researching German legends . He worked as an art historian in Weimar , Dessau and Darmstadt . Most recently he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . As a go. He retired to the court councilor in Coburg.
