Franz Feist

Franz Feist (born June 24, 1864 in Frankfurt am Main , † October 21, 1941 in Bonn ) was a German chemist .

Life

After attending secondary school in his hometown, he studied chemistry from 1882 to 1886 at the universities of Berlin and Strasbourg , where he also received his doctorate . After completing his military service (1886/1887), he assisted in London laboratories from 1887 to 1889. In 1890 he completed his habilitation as a private lecturer at the Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum in Zurich . From 1894 to 1901 he taught as a private lecturer at the University of Zurich . From 1896 he was a part-time teacher of chemistry at the veterinary school in Zurich. Despite his Jewish origins, he was baptized in 1900.

On January 15, 1901, he moved to the University of Kiel and took on a lectureship in chemical technology as a private lecturer. On May 10, 1902, he was awarded the title of professor. On July 12, 1913, he became head of department at the Chemical Institute and, at the end of the year, an associate professor. Finally, on August 20, 1921, he was appointed full professor of chemistry.

On October 1, 1929 he retired. Then he moved to Bonn, where he also died. In his specialty - organic chemistry - he published numerous papers in specialist journals. Since 1906 he was a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina , the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors , the Senckenberg Natural Research Society and the Association of German Chemists . He was married to Frieda Liebermann (1874–1918), then to Marie Meyer.

He found his final resting place in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
