Franz Felke

Franz Felke (born January 8, 1902 in Laufersweiler ; † March 19, 1990 in Sohren ) was a German entrepreneur from the Hunsrück and holder of the Medal of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Life

Franz Felke was born the son of a carpenter in the village of Laufersweiler in the Hunsrück. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter journeyman in 1924 in the carpenter's workshop of his brother, the entrepreneur Michael Felke , he started studying to be a carpenter at the Cologne School of Applied Arts , which he completed in 1927 with a master's degree. Together with his brother Michael, he set up a furniture production company in the municipality of Sohren from 1928 . Franz Felke was married and had two children.

Felke Möbelwerke

Franz Felke took over the conception of the models at Felke Möbelwerke , initially for bedrooms, then expanded for kitchens and living rooms. In addition, as Technical Director of the plants, he was in charge of setting up the technical systems and was thus largely responsible for the production process. The monthly production rate was around 15,000 residential units until the 1970s.

In addition to managing all technical operations, Franz Felke improved the company's accident prevention and social working conditions, especially for those injured in the war and severely disabled.

In 1970 he handed over the position of technical director to his nephew Günter Felke , who had also joined the company's management alongside his brothers Walter and Aloys Felke .

Awards

In June 1971, Franz Felke received the Federal Medal of Merit and the gold medal of merit from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for building up Michael Felke Möbelwerke and for his services to the technical and social structure of the plants .
