Franz Halla

Franz Halla (born March 19, 1884 in Vienna ; † May 17, 1971 in Dörfl, Lower Austria ) was an Austrian chemist.

Halla studied at the Technical University in Vienna and was able to successfully complete this course in 1907 with the title "Dipl.-Ing.". He then moved to the Technical University in Berlin , where he received his doctorate two years later .

Halla went back to Vienna and got a job as a technical assistant in the trade promotion office. His career took him from the position of a department head to the position of a building councilor.

He took part in the First World War and returned to Vienna in 1918. He worked as a private lecturer for the next few years and was able to present his habilitation at the Technical University in 1924 . Subsequently, he was entrusted with the management of the X-ray department and at the same time that of the Institute for Physical Chemistry (both TU Vienna). In 1930 Hall was appointed "associate professor".

After the Anschluss in 1938, Halla lost all of his offices ( Austria during the National Socialist era ).

In 1946 Halla was reinstated in all of his offices as "o.Prof." By the Vienna University of Technology and remained there until his retirement in 1949. He then worked in an advisory capacity at the Association des Études Texturales in Brussels for a few years . After 1960 Halla withdrew into private life and settled in Dörfl. He died eight weeks after his 87th birthday on May 17, 1971 in Dörfl, where he also found his final resting place.
