Franz Jung (mathematician)

Franz Jung (born May 14, 1872 in Hohenelbe , † December 3, 1957 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mathematician and university professor . He was rector of the Vienna University of Technology .

Life

Franz Jung studied mathematics and chemistry at the University of Prague . In 1896, he laid there teaching certificate, and in 1899 he graduated as Dr. phil. In 1904 he completed his habilitation at the German Technical University in Prague .

In 1905 he moved to the Technical University of Vienna, where he was initially an honorary lecturer and from 1911 an associate professor. In 1919 he was appointed full professor for general and analytical mechanics. In the academic years 1921/22 and 1922/23 he was dean of the general department, in the academic year 1930/31 he was elected rector of the Vienna University of Technology . In the summer semester of 1945 he was dean of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Physics. In 1946 he retired . In 1947 he received an honorary doctorate from the Vienna University of Technology .

He died in 1957 at the age of 85 and was buried on December 9, 1957 at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
