Franz Karl Meyer

Franz Karl Meyer (born March 14, 1906 in Berlin ; † July 21, 1983 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Franz Karl Meyer completed an apprenticeship as a printer in 1920 and became a member of the Association of German Book Printers . In 1924 he became a member of the SPD and the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold . Until 1931 he attended the German School of Politics . After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , Meyer participated, among other things, in the Red Shock Troop resistance group . He was sentenced for it along with many others. Meyer had to go to prison for two years . He served his sentence in Brandenburg-Görden . In 1943 he was drafted into the " Penal Division 999 ". Meyer, who was seriously injured, managed to desert before the end of the war and to stay in hiding until the liberation.

After the Second World War , Meyer worked in the printing press again. From 1946 he became a member of the Kreuzberg district assembly , from 1948 to 1961 he was a member of the city ​​assembly of Greater Berlin and the Berlin House of Representatives . In the period from 1953 to 1971 Meyer was district chairman of the SPD Kreuzberg. On November 10, 1961, he resigned from the House of Representatives to work as a district councilor for public education in the Kreuzberg district office. For reasons of age he had to resign as a city councilor in 1971, which is why Meyer successfully ran for another legislative period in the House of Representatives from 1971 to 1975.

In 1976 Meyer was awarded the title of City Elder in Berlin .

A memorial plaque in honor of Franz Karl Meyer was erected at Dieffenbachstrasse 55 in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
