Franz Keller (born July 3, 1852 in Reutlingen , † June 17, 1938 in Heubach ) was a German doctor and Swabian homeland researcher in Heubach. He was also known as a rose stone doctor.

Life

He grew up as the child of the businessman Heinrich Rudolf Keller and his wife Karoline Keller, née Finckh, from the family of the poet Ludwig Finckh , and received his education at the Latin school in Reutlingen, the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Urach and during his medical Studied at the universities of Tübingen , Munich and Freiburg im Breisgau (1870 to 1876). In 1877 he was in Heubach for the first time, where he became a city and district doctor. There he quickly developed his passion for local research and published much of his historical and archaeological research, the focus of which was the Rosenstein with its karst caves. He made finds, for example, at the small barn .

Franz Keller was made honorary citizen of the city of Heubach in 1927 in view of his services as a doctor, local researcher and promoter of tourism. In 2008, the Franz-Keller-Stube was set up in his honor in the Heubach Castle, where part of his estate is also located.

Keller was a co-founder of the Heubach branch of the Swabian Alb Association and long-time chairman (1892–1932) of its northeast district.

At the highest point on the Kalten Feld plateau is the Franz-Keller-Haus , named after him in his honor , a managed hiking home of the Swabian Alb Association. A memorial was erected to him on the Rosenstein. Franz-Keller-Straße is named after him in the town of Heubach.

Keller's works also include paintings and photographs relating to Heubach and the surrounding area.
