Franz Kienmayer

Franz Kienmayer (born February 19, 1886 in Vienna , † 1963 in Baden-Baden ) was an Austrian portrait painter , illustrator and orientalist .

Life

Biographical information on Kienmayer's education is unknown. It is documented that during the First World War on January 15, 1916, he was accepted as a war painter in the art group of the Austro-Hungarian War Press Office . Among other things, he was stationed in Suta near Muereasca and in Bukowina . Most of the works from this creative period are now in the Army History Museum in Vienna, two of which are on display in the thematic area on the First World War.

After the war, Kienmayer worked in Vienna, Predlitz-Turrach , Graz and most recently in Leipzig and Baden-Baden. In Leipzig he was titled as an art professor . From 1929 he traveled to Java , Bali and Indonesia . Motifs from this period, such as landscapes , temple and genre scenes , can now be found in large numbers at art auctions and are privately owned.

In 1931 Kienmayer joined the Apollo Masonic Lodge (mat. No. 2302). From 1933 Kienmayer put himself in the service of the National Socialists . Among other things, his oil painting Hermann Göring , which was created in 1934, became famous. His oil painting Bildnis Generalfeldmarschall von Blomberg , Minister of War in Hitler's cabinet in 1933, was shown at the Nazi propaganda show Great German Art Exhibition in 1937 in the House of German Art in Munich.
