Franz Landgraf (photographer)

Franz Landgraf (born March 19, 1870 in Zschocken ; † October 15, 1953 in Zwickau ) was a German photographer and publisher of postcards, especially for the Ore Mountains .

Landgraf came from the area around the Saxon industrial city of Zwickau . After attending school, he was up in 1889 as a trained cooper on the roll in the Rhineland before moving to Berlin completed until 1895 his education successfully. In 1900 he became self-employed as a photographer and opened a photographic studio opposite the Zwickau barracks in Kasernenstrasse 2A (today: Kopernikusstrasse 2). At the same time he founded an art institute named after him there, in which he published over 13,000 different postcards of his own photographs until his death . Landgraf's first known card was canceled in August 1900. He also produced glass slide series, including, for example, The beautiful Saxony with 176 slides.

He became a member of the Erzgebirgsverein and gave slide shows before the First World War , some of which he organized together with his friend Anton Günther .

Landgraf's two sons also became photographers, and Hans Landgraf (1899–1980) settled in Oberschlema .
