Franz Marschang

Franz Marschang (born July 29, 1932 in Iohanisfeld , German  Johannisfeld , Kingdom of Romania ) is a German veterinarian , journalist , university professor and writer .

Life

Franz Marschang was born in 1932 in Iohannisfeld not far from the Romanian-Yugoslav border. After completing his studies in veterinary medicine in 1956 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Arad , he worked as a veterinarian in state veterinary practices in the Banat (including at the slaughterhouse in Timișoara ) and in Dobruja until 1962 , and later as a university teacher . During his three years as editor of the Neue Banater Zeitung , Marschang began writing short prose. He then worked for various newspapers and wrote five plays, which were published in the monthly Volk und Kultur in Bucharest .

Marschang moved to Germany in 1977 and has lived in Heidelberg ever since . From 1991 Franz Marschang worked for more than ten years at the German weekly newspaper Der Donauschwabe , the organ of the Danube Swabian country team. Here he wrote reports, critical analyzes and short narratives on the situation in Romania and Banat Swabian topics of the post-war period. He has also published several short stories in anthologies and three short prose volumes. In his four-part series “On the Edge of History”, Marschang worked on the events in the Banat after the Second World War , which among other things contributed to the exodus of the Banat Swabians in Romania in the second half of the 20th century.
